“We play self-penned songs with some dancey covers thrown in. Our songs are about journeys, the road, love and other demons.”

The Meltones are Carol Foster, lead vocals; Clive Melton, guitar and harmonica and Simon Bishop; cajon a Singer/Songwriter led band based in the southwest town of Frome. It boasts a sophisticated jazzy pop sound, layered with a tight rhythm section and R&B-inflected female vocals. The Meltones have carved out a specific niche by splicing a deep love of folk and jazz with a mixture of pop craft and a slice of upbeat song writing, although never far away is a touch of unrequited love in their lyrics that is called the blues.

Their covers include some blue-eyed soul and a touch of gospel.

Carol Foster has been a singer songwriter for many years and continues to diversify her song writing over the decades, collaborating with Clive Melton, another fine songwriter, who now just plays his guitar with six-string authority. The production of this original material is important to the all members of the band in blazing their musical trails.

The Meltones fun element laid back musicality and team spirit presents itself on stage.

The name originates from guitarist, Clive Melton. Some years later, Carol Foster married him so as not to be outdone on the name! And so was born the Meltones.
Carol writes the lyrics of the songs built around Clive's music. She tries hard not to write the obvious! Her songs are usually about the painful adolescent years, the demons of love and that ache in your heart called loss. There is always an autobiographical ballad in there waiting to come out.

They began their musical journey in the late 1980s, Clive playing guitar and composing tunes, while Carol took the lead vocals and writing the lyrics.

Various musicians came and went along the way but as the years went by they became a duo once more.

Later. . .along came Simon Bishop on cajon.

In 2015 Clive recorded Vanity, an album of original material, collaborating with a host of talented musicians. In 2020 Carol released her album, Coming Home, and was also fortunate to have a host of talented musicians involved.

Their ongoing quest for self penned songs and interesting covers help emphasize how The Meltones continue to find fresh inspiration within their signature blend of soul, pop, and jazz. They have played at various venues, Birthday parties, weddings, festivals and anywhere that takes the band's fancy at the time.
